Happy Anniversary Twist Collective!

It’s Twist Collective’s 5-year anniversary and as a part of this they have been doing a giveaway series everyday. Today’s Giveaway is for a handmade yarn swift. To enter, we had to write a haiku with the word swift in it and post it to their ravelry page. I am quite proud of mine.

Swiftly the wool spins,
The sheep it’s coat has given,
My selfish passion.

Hahaha, I’m not a great writer or poet but I’m excited about this giveaway. I have been wanting to buy my own swift and ball winder for a while, hope this turns out well. Otherwise, I might have to splurge and buy it anyway.

Sailor Schnooge

First, let me introduce you to one of my favorite words. Schnooge. Say it a few times. It sounds a little like the word schmooze. The word is an appropriate thing to use in reference to small humans and dogs. Used in a sentence I would say, “that baby is such a little schnooge!” By definition, schnooges inspire intense urges to cuddle them. This is exactly how I feel about this sweater. I can’t wait to see it on the recipient. There will be plenty of snuggles.

Pull Gaspard was a pure joy to knit up. Admittedly this is my first baby knit, so part of the joy I took was due to the fact that it went by so quickly. I almost knit the entire thing on the planes to and from Germany. It sat in the project bag for a while when I got home but thanks to My Sister’s Knitter’s knit-along, I am inspired to finish some of my many WIPs. This is my first FO for the knit-along so I am pretty excited.

I settled on this pattern because of knitthehellout’s Baby Sailor. Like her, I had some trouble with turning the sailor collar. I thought I had it down and was happily knitting it up when I looked down in horror that I had knit it up wrong.

The sweater is a bit stubby and I think that I will add some length next time I knit it. I think my guage was off a little because I had to shorten the pocket to make it fit the length of the sweater. I might also choose a different yarn next time. This sweater is for a nonknitter so I chose Berroco Vintage as it is machine washable. I should have chosen an all wool blend I think because I could feel the acrylic/nylon as I knit it up. I hate that feeling. But then again, I am a little bit of a knitting snob.

I hope to get some baby shots soon but for now, photos of the flat piece will have to do.
